Not only to be read before bedtime, board books can be a great way to entertain your baby during the day as well. There are many board books my kids loved when they were younger. Here are my top five board books with different benefits to reading them.
The first book on my list is the critically acclaimed bedtime story, Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown. This book is sure to entertain your little ones with the bright vibrant colors and illustrations all while getting your baby ready to sleep the night away. The calm words, short sentences, and tranquil nature of this book create the perfect dynamic for your baby to fall fast asleep. There is no doubt that Goodnight Moon is the perfect addition to any family’s bedtime routine.
Author, Sandra Boynton, has a unique and engaging way of adding funny, entertaining sparks to all her books. So much so that when you search her name on google her title is humorist instead of author. Blue Hat, Green Hat, is her most famous book because of the humorous touches Boynton included. This book never fails to make my kids laugh and request to read it multiple times. Plus it satisfies my wishes because I know my little ones are also learning. Blue Hat, Green Hat has a fun yet educational way of teaching articles of clothing to your youngsters, all through using 4 comical animals.
The next book on my list is Little Blue Truck by Alice Schertle because it displays a great moral lesson that all kids can learn from. It features a kind Blue truck that all the farm animals like and a mean dump truck that the farm animals don’t like. When the dump truck gets stuck in the mud only the blue truck comes to his aid. But when the blue truck gets stuck also the farm animals come to help him and in turn help the dump truck also. The dump truck and the children reading the book learn the valuable lesson that kindness pays off in the end.
The fourth book on my list is the best book, in my opinion, for teaching your little ones every color of the rainbow along with a few animals. Written by Bill Martin, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See is a wonderful book that explores so many different kinds of animals in every color of the rainbow. My kids learned the names of colors and the names of animals remarkably fast thanks to this book.
The last book on my list is a fun and entertaining book by Rod Campbell called Dear Zoo. Not only is it just a very entertaining book for the little ones but it also teaches them the names of many zoo animals. In the beginning of the book the speaker wrote to the zoo and asked them to send a pet. The rest of the book shows all the different animals the zoo sent the narrator until they found the perfect pet. The lift the flap style of this book is perfect for building suspense and engagement. So next time you need a book to read to your baby do not hesitate to reach for any of those wonderful and educational books.
